Most Common Type of Chiropractor Adjustment for Lower B...

22 million Americans every year visit their licensed chiropractor for chiropractic adjustments due to back or joint pain. Back pain from sports injuries, car accidents, or muscle strains from vigorous activity are all common reasons that many people need chiropractic adjustments. The Diversified Technique is the primary service a chiropractor provides, which involves low impact manipulation of the spine to re-align the musculoskeletal structure of the body.

Many chiropractors provide alternative techniques and methods of chiropractic care. The Diversified technique is the most widely used chiropractic adjustment technique. This method consist of high velocity, low amplitude thrusts deep into joints aimed at aligning spinal segments of the neck, back or to correct the alignment of other joints. These deep thrusts are aimed at the cavitation of joints as a way of putting the joint in its proper place and stretching surrounding tissue which has formed around the misaligned joint.

This deep thrust results in a “popping” sound known as Osseous. This is not the joint being moved back into place, as many believe. The truth is that joints do not go out of place. What that sound actually is are the bubbles of gas in the fluids around the joint that are popping as they are released. This called cavitation. This happens as the soft tissue around the joint is stretched back in to position with the adjustment.

Chiropractic adjustments are designed to restore normal joint and neurological activity in the joint, which allows the body to heal itself more readily. This restored function of the joint results in pain relief, a decrease in symptoms and more freedom of movement in the joint, which has been restricted by tissue that has formed around the improper alignment.

Every day our bodies experience trauma from falling, repetitive motion and the ways that we sit without supporting our backs. If untreated, these traumas can lead to a host of more serious medical problems and injuries. Good chiropractic care is the easiest, least invasive way to properly align muscles, joints, bones and connective tissue in a way that restores the proper biomedical functioning of the joints and can prevent the need for more serious medication or medical care in some cases.

Fully trained chiropractors will have D.C. after their name, which is earned by going through a pre-med undergraduate degree plus four to five years of chiropractic college. National board exams are also a requirement for chiropractors before they open a practice. You should expect that the chiropractor will want a full history and physical before you receive treatment. In some cases, they may want you to have a series of x-rays as well. Although most patients will start to experience the benefits of chiropractic treatment within a visit or two, patients that have acute pain, like lower back pain, may need five or six visits before they begin to resolve their issues.

Low back pain is a very common problem affecting 80-90% of all of us at some point in our lifetime. Why is that you ask? There are many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that we are 2-legged animals carrying 2/3rds of our weight above our waist. Studies have shown deterioration or arthritis occurs much sooner in us vs. our 4-legged animal counterparts. A 180 lbs man carries roughly 120 lbs above the waist. This means, every time he bends over, in order to stand upright, he needs to lift 120 lbs PLUS whatever he is lifting. Hence, the argument of, “but I only bent over to lift a pencil and my back went out,” seems on the surface as impossible but in reality, the man in our example is lifting the pencil plus 120 lbs.
