Theresa Jacobs is the program director of cosmetology for Florida Career College where she supervises the cosmetology program at all its Florida campuses. Jacobs, who launched the college’s recently-applied 12-month cosmetology diploma/certification course, claims her individual experiences: from stylist to educator, shaped her for this career.  That is because Jacobs’ industry experience commenced from the bottom up, as a stylist, salon owner and educator. She created the core curriculum.  People who are earnest on a career in cosmetology need to respect state requirements to get licensing and certifications, she says. College students are required to  know about the business side. They have to acquire soft skills for customer service. They take a board exam.  Starting a career course and building authority call for comparable foundations, says Jacobs.
The path starts with education and intersects with certifications and instruction, mentoring, work experiences and continuous education.
